Memories from Jessica Davis with John:
- all the barbecues growing up at Lydia’s house but especially him getting a rise from all the kids with his cricket snacks. One year he put one in my soda can.
- the hike we did the day after thanksgiving with the ground covered in snow and finding caves
- one time I was heading out with a friend (Allie) to meet up with two boys (sorry mom) and I knew I had to head out ASAP before John got there and did his thing. Well I thought I had made it, but I was less than a block away from home when he rolled up in the car and started his classic cousin John heckling.
Memories from Julia Davis:
One of my favorite memories was when John Grima took me and all the cousins out into our front yard in the summer. This is when we were still pretty young. Maybe I was in fifth grade. Margot, my best friend still today was there too and he started a Simon says game. The winner was going to get some sort of cash prize probably five dollars but it made us all super competitive and really into the game. He did some of the funniest Simon says tricks ever. We were laughing the whole time and he knew how to get people out by going really fast or slow. He even did some gross ones like pick your nose and stick your finger in your mouth. I can’t remember who won but we had a lot of fun playing and he always brought a cool and fun, uncle energy. There were no adults around too which just shows how much fun he had with the kids and how he cared about spending time with us.
Also, when he dared us to eat fried crickets for one dollar. And they actually turned out to be pretty tasty. I bragged about that for years to my friends. He was always getting us up and active and doing adventurous things like that.

Unfortunately I never got to know John, but from what I have heard he was both a legend and a Saint. Wendy, Tina, Fiona, Zoe and Sophia have shared countless stories about John. The experiences he gave those kids and the example he set for them will live with them forever and for that I am very grateful to him. He will be extremely missed and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

There is not enough space to write all the memories with John and watching him grow up “down” the block in Floral Park.
Infectious laughter, huge heart, mischievous fun, what a delightful young boy and he turned out to be a hardworking,
sensitive, loving individual beyond our wildest expectations. A devoted father, son and my God a husband to marvel at.
He is at peace and he is out of harms way…. True, there will always be an emptiness, but we will have his memories he left for his family to get through without him. John, hope you are giving the angels a run for the money up there…
