Obituary of Schmaeling, Beatrice Theresa (Mirabito)

September 18,1922-September 2, 2024

Beatrice Theresa Schmaeling, a long-time New Hyde Park resident, was born in the Bronx on September 18, 1922. She entered heaven peacefully on September 2nd 2024, at the remarkable age of 101. Beatrice was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Arthur.

Beatrice was a devoted wife and mother, who is survived by her children: Patricia (Edward), Kathleen (Lance), James (Yvonne), John (Suzanne), and Francis (Sandra), as well as her sister Genevieve. Beatrice delighted in spending time with her 19 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Beatrice was a faithful member of Notre Dame Church, and enjoyed social gatherings as part of the Columbiettes, Red Hatters, and the Italian Club. She lived a life of charity, helping the poor and less fortunate. She dedicated her time to creating Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas gifts, and communion dresses for girls in need. Her generosity extended beyond her community as she raised funds by baking decadent pound cakes for the Salesian missions in Sierra Leone, Africa.

Beatrice shared her talents through baked treats for her ministry, family, and friends, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Her legacy of charity can best be stated in her own words, “Give from your heart and be kind to one another,” which will resound in our hearts forever.
