Obituary of Angela Flori

On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, an angel, Angela Flori, ascended into heaven after recently celebrating her 59th birthday. Angela Flori was born on February 1, 1961, in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Angelo and Josephine Tripodi. Angelo and Josephine immigrated to the U.S. from a small town in Italy called Castel Ruggero. Angela had a modest upbringing, accompanied by her two siblings Catherina and Luigino. One of the staples of her childhood was her faith in the Catholic Church which remained present for her entire life. As such, she went to catholic school throughout her childhood and to St. Francis Preparatory for High School. Her unmatched work ethic and dedication to be the best carried through in all aspects of life including school, her marriage and her career. In 1977, Angela, at the age of 16, met the love of her life, Dan Flori, through a mutual friend. After meeting Dan, Angela said she knew at first sight that this man would be her husband. Soul mates forever. After 7 years of dating, Angela and Dan married in 1984 surrounded by all of their beloved friends and family. Although the childhoods of Angela and Dan were far from simple, they wanted their children to have everything they did and more. Thus, they purchased their dream home in Manhasset Hills, NY. Angela resided in this home for her entire adult life and had the privilege of raising three beautiful children, Andréa, Alexandra and Daniel. In addition to her love of the Catholic Church, Angela’s life revolved around her three children. They, along with her husband, were her everything. From packing their lunches to attending their sporting events, Angela was the quintessential example of a true caretaker. Moreover, she forewent a promising career to stay home until her youngest child, Daniel, reached middle school age. A few years later Angela sought work close to home for Herricks Facilities which allowed her to remain close to her family and be the wife/mother they needed; two positions that can never be replaced. Some of Angela’s favorite memories with her family included various vacations, holidays, church every Sunday, and simply being in the company of her loved ones. Angela always prepared unbelievable delicious meals for the entire extended family each holiday. She loved to cook, and more importantly, she loved to put smiles on people’s faces. She only had two requests when it came to dinner. One, the family had to sit and enjoy the meal together and discuss how their days went. Two, the television had to be shut except for when the Mets were on. Her favorite player was of course Jacob Degrom because he lived in the same building as her daughter and his hair resembled her son. Dinner will never be the same without her. Even though her food was amazing, her presence at the table is what will truly be missed. While some crave extravagant adventures, Angela desired to be in the presence of her loved ones more than anything. Even in her final days, hearing the voice of a loved one call or just knowing we were present brought a smile to her face. Angela’s life was cut way too short when she was diagnosed with a rare, unbeatable form of cancer, pleomorphic sarcoma. Despite a clear uphill battle, she never stopped fighting as the dedication, spirit and commitment she exemplified on a daily basis was nothing short of a miracle. After countless rounds of chemo, radiation and even ozone therapy, her body had enough and she spent her last couple weeks in the comfort of the home that brought her so many wonderful memories. Angela will be remembered by countless people for, among other things, her dedication to the catholic church and her love for humanity, always putting others before herself. She was an amazing mother, wife, sister, cook, and caretaker, who would drop what she was doing in an instant to come to the needs of others. The characteristics that made her the amazing, generous person she was will be passed on to those touched by her beautiful soul. While Angela may be physically gone, her spirit lives within all of us. Her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, loving kisses, comfy hugs, and love for her family and friends continues on through all that knew her. Angela will always be remembered by family and friends as our “Angel.” Angela Flori will be buried on April 11, 2020, at Mount St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
