It was an honor to know Joe for over 40 years. He was one of the kindest and sweetest people we have had the pleasure of calling a friend.

It is with deep sadness that I write this message for I will always remember Joe and how much he helped me and our colleagues in the Garden City School District. The care and compassion that he showed each of us went well beyond what was required of him as a principal. I would like to send my sincerest condolences to the Prusan family.

I was so fortunate to have Joe as part of my professional life. He was a compassionate being who led by example not just words. I often told Joe he should have been a rabbi not a High School Principal. His congregation was the high school staff and students. Whether you were a faculty member, cafeteria worker or 9th grader, he treated you with kindness.
Joe was loved by all and he was our protector. He was known as “Joey” who fought for as Rocky did. Both from Philadelphia of course. “Hawkeye Prusan” who after serving is Korea took care of his staff when they were harmed and “Pennsylvania Joe” who protected us from all who would do us harm. He was our super hero.
My field is mathematics so I am not good with words, so I will just say that Joseph Prusan was a 10.

William C. Moyers posted a condolence

He was a gentle soul who was firmly committed to education for all students at GCHS.
He took his job seriously but always shared a laugh.
He knew what it meant to be a leader but always considered himself part of the team.
What a guy.
