In the early nineties we had the privilege and honor of being Tony and Rae’s best man and matron of honor at their wedding in Brooklyn Borough Hall. The four of us were very familiar with downtown Brooklyn, and it took only a few seconds to agree we would celebrate at Junior’s on Flatbush Avenue. Where else? What a lovely day.
I had the good fortune of being Tony’s Deputy when he was Brooklyn Borough Commander... perhaps the most pleasant assignment I ever had.
I do not have a brother. But in many ways Tony was like an older brother to me: wiser, always available and always willing to help. He assisted me in innumerable ways when I was in the Fire Department. I remember the times we worked together as perhaps the most enjoyable I had.
Throughout the last fifteen-plus years Rae has given to us and to all of Tony’s
many friends an example of spousal love and devotion the likes of which we probably will never see again.
May God bless Rae! And dear Tony, RIP.

Our sincere condolences to Rae and the entire family. Tony was a good friend and fellow member of the FDNY to our husband and father Martin Schmidt. He was a good friend to us as well, as he and Rae prepared our taxes for many years. We will miss him but are sure he is catching up with Martin and other FDNY family.

Tony a man for all seasons.phdj8
Neighbor, Tony and Rae moved across the street from me in 1998 and we struck up an immediate friendship.
Buddies, We always helped each other repairing cars, fixing and remodeling our homes and taking care of our vegetable gardens.
Civic Duty, Tony loved living on and near the water. We patrolled Barnegat Bay and the coastal ocean waters of northern Ocean county for many years with the
US Coast Guard Aux.
Gentlemen, Tony would always lend a hand to many neighbors.
He would jump first to pay a dinner tab.
Tony is going to be missed by many, especially me. Jack Padavano

When someone I really care for passes into the next life I read this card I keep on my desk. It helps me to understand:
If a tiny baby could think, it would be afraid of birth. To leave the only world it has known would seem a kind of death. But immediately after birth the child finds itself in loving arms, showered with affection and cared for at every moment. Surely the baby would say, "I was foolish to doubt Gods Plan for me. This is a beautiful life."
For the Christian, passing through death is really a birth into a new and better world. Those who are left behind should not grieve as if there were no hope. Life is changed, not taken away. Our dear ones live on, in a world beautiful beyond anything we can imagine. With Jesus and Mary they await the day when they will welcome us with joy. "Do not grieve too much," they say to us. "We are living and still with you".
See you in the next life good friend.

The leader of the "A Team" will surely be missed, but not forgotten!
To my friend and mentor; May the Blessed Virgin Mary escort you to the Main Gate of Heaven and may Jesus welcome you with open arms.
