Obituary of Edward F. Swaschnig
~~Edward Francis Swaschnig was born Aug. 2, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. After serving his country during World War II as a corporal in the Army, he married Gertrude—who would be his wife for 70 years—and moved to Garden City Park, where they raised a family: three children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Although he earned a living driving a truck—first delivering milk for the Renken Dairy and then books for the Nassau Library System—his true life’s work was as a minister in the New Apostolic Church. In this capacity he spent many hours fostering fellowship and friendship between many different denominations. He was always quick to mentor the youth of the congregation to keep them on the right path (even if reluctantly), because he knew that they are the future.
After attaining the age of 91, the Lord called him home on November 16, 2017 and the arrangements are as follows:
Monday Nov. 20, 2017 there will be visitation from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Park Funeral Chapels, 2175 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park, NY 11040 (www.parkfuneralchapels.com)
Tuesday Nov. 21, 2017 there will be a short visitation from 5-7pm at the Rosedale Congregation of the New Apostolic Church, 228-15 147th Ave., Rosedale, NY 11413. A funeral service will follow at 8pm.
Wednesday Nov. 22, 2017 interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery at 11:30am with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations sent to the DAV or NYU Winthrop Hospital.
